Michaelangelo's Masters Art School

Michaelangelo's Masters was started in 1996 after I studied at the Mission Rennaissance in Los Angeles.

I learnt how to create art in the style of the Masters of the Rennaissance period. I was inspired to bring this skill and understanding to others. My idea was that everyone could get on the path of becoming a master of their own creativity.

There is such joy to be experienced in creating art and also in discovering more about your own reality through art.

There is security in learning skills by mastering the basics first. A student first learns to draw a still life as an outline. Methods are taught so that a person can position objects in the right relationship to others.

Size, depth, proportion and perspective are learnt and it can feel like you are really seeing for the first time.

Next a student learns to see the tones and shadows of an object and how to create these with charcoal. This creates the three dimensional form.

After this step paint is used to create objects. The examples above and to the right are done with oil paint. A student may use watercolor, acrylic or pastels.

Once a basic understanding of color is learnt a person uses color firstly in transparent glazes as in the apples below. The glazes are applied over the grey tone painting.

The final step is to use color and tone together. The person learns to use paint in an opaque form as in the orange below.

With the basics thoroughly learnt the adventure now becomes to find and produce your own artistic creations.

Inspirations come from many areas in life such as nature, the human form, faces, comedy, abstract ideas, religious or spiritual experience. Sometimes another artist inspires us to create.

We explore these sources and the student becomes an artist and creator.

This is a fun journey and the adventure is shared by the other students who help to inspire and encourage.

We all create together and the classes can be the high light of your week. Many friends are made and experiences shared.

If you have ever wanted to become an artist please call or email me to find out more.

I will be starting a new class in August. Please call to schedule your free introductory class. I would love to meet you.

I have teaching studios at the Madison Gallery on Gallatin Rd and Full Circle Gallery in Franklin.
