Nasca Lines and Native American Myths
by Robyn Lee Anderson-Morshead

The paintings in this Gallery were inspired by drawings on the Nasca Plains of Peru. The drawings can be viewed from the air and were created by removing the top layer of stones to reveal a different color under the lines. I became interested in the reason and meaning of these drawings and belienve they were created by the Peruvians to help them connect with their gods. Their gods used animal spirits as messengers.

The condor was the messenger to the gods of a higher aesthetic plane of existence.

The puma represented the gods of the middle or physical world.

The snake inhabits the lower world. It is a world of heavy condensed energy formed by negative emotions and unresolved conflicts. The snake is also a symbol of hope as heavy energy can be changed to light, free energy by resolving conflicts and purifying oneself of negative experience.

These animalspirits are there to help man achieve physical and spiritual survival and enlightenment. These lines still fascinate us today and lead to much speculation.
